Just ordinary effort from a creative mind
The Review
Krishnavamsi’s Mahatma fails to live up to expectations. It stands out just an average film. In fact its pretty ordinary effort from Krishna Vamsi. He takes a good subject and he got theme. But his story and narration is ordinary. There is nothing fresh and new in his execution. It seems tat Krishnavamsi is still there where he was earlier. He needs lots of updating in his narrative and execution. Mahatma begins on a promising note and Krishnavamsi played a safe game by trying to make it as a commercial entertainer. The film is entertaining in the first half and serious in the second half. Though he tried to make it a commercial entertainer, the film lacks other entertaining elements comedy, glamour etc. etc. Technically too Mahatma disappoints. Overall Mahatma is a just an ordinary effort from the creative mind. The fate of the film at the box office depends on how the masses take this film. The film fails to impress the Class A audience.
Synopsis
Basti goon Dasu (Srikanth) lives with settlements and extortion. Young lawyer Krishnaveni (Bhavana) helps him to get bail after he lands up in jail because of his activities. Soon they start coming closer. Politician Dada (Jayaprakash Reddy) woos Dasu to work for him in settling a dispute over the construction of SEZ.
He promises to help Dasu in becoming a politician. Meanwhile in Krishnaveni’s love Dasu gets to know the importance of non violence and Gandhian principle. How did Dasu stop the construction of SEZ by using Gandhian principles is all about the rest of the story.
Artistic Performances:
Srikanth steals the show from beginning to end.
He came up with matured performance through out the film. He is also good in action sequences and so his dance moments.
Bhavana gets good role with all shades. She justified her role. Among other Jayaprakash Reddy too justified his role. Although Ram Jagan, who played the roles of Mahatma Gandhi, Potti Sriramulu, Tanguturi Pantulu, NT Rama Rao etc. etc justified all the roles. Brhamnandam’s brief appearance brings little laugh.
Charmi sizzles in the item number but don’t expect any oomph factors from her.
Technical performances
Like most of his earlier films director Krishnavamsi takes a serious and sensitive subject. His story is okay. The problem is with the screenplay. Though he manages to impress in the first half, he looses focus in the second half. His style of execution for the scenes is all over there and he executed all the scenes nicely. Muisc by Vijay Anthony is okay. Songs are okay.

stands out and the rest are okay. Recording is okay. Cinematography by Sharat is also pretty ordinary. And so the editing. It seems that Krishna Vamsi has forgotten to concentrate more on is technical departments.
