Good… but just routine and ordinary stuff
The Review
Prabhas- Karunakaran’s Darling has nothing fresh to offer but it is entertaining in parts. Prabhas, his performance, Kajal and Karunakaran’s taking style of few scenes are the saving graces. Everything else is not up to the expectations. Over all … the film stands out just as an average film. The music is disappointing, though Karunakaran’s visuals are pretty good especially in the songs. Action sequences are also okay but they don’t justify for this family entertainer.
Like all typical commercial films, the fist of the film is pretty good, but it is in the second half the director comes up with unnecessary and dragging sequences here and there and there by boring the audience. There is nothing fresh and all most everything is routine and stereo type. Defiantly this is not a box office failure film, but the fate of the film at the box office depends on the effect of Balakrishna’s Simha and other films that will hit screens next month.
Synopsis
College buddies Prabhu, Ahuthi Prasad and others are in touch with each others though they have separated many years back after their graduation. Prabhau’s son Prabha (Prabhas) falls in love with Ahuti Prasad’s daughter Nandini (Kajal). It was one side love. Unfortunately Nandini’s family moves to Switzerland. Meanwhile daughter of a local dada (Mukesh Rishi) Shaddhra Das falls in love with Prabha but he rejects her love. When she tried to commit suicide, her father wants to kill Prabha. After some time, the old buddies meet together again; Prabha decides to express his love to Nandini. But her father has some other match ready for her. How did she fall in love for Prabha and how did they unit in the end is all about the rest of the film.
Artistic Performances:
Prabhas steals the show from beginning to ending. The energy, the charisma is seen in every frame in which he appears. He easily carried the role with much ease.
Of course the character is flat and playing such characters is not much difficult.
But what Prabhas brings is his own style. Kajal is beautiful and like all his heroines, Karunakaran showed her much beautifully and there is no scope for vulgarity.
Among others Shradhdha Das justified her role, though her scope is very limited. Prabhu, Ahuti Prasad, Mukhesh Rishi and others too justified their roles.
Technical Performances
The story is weak. Though the narration seems to be different from the trend, the screenplay is boring.
As a director Karunakaran maintained his style and he never crossed his boundary. The other major weakness is the music by G.V.Prakash. Neither the songs nor the back ground score is enhancing the mood.
Karunakaran must have settled with his favorite music director Karthik Raja. The best things that happened to Darling are the cinematography by Andrew and the editing by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao. The film is visually rich in few scenes and so the editor justified his role. Actions by Peter Hayes are also good. All other departments justified their roles.
