The Review
Oy is OK to watch
Siddartha- Shamili’s Oy has nothing fresh to offer in terms of story line but it stands out an average film with the performances of the lead pair and with few key scenes. The visuals are also good to some extent. The problem comes because the film makers are very keen on turning this film in to a commercial entertainer at the cost of other crucial scenes very important to the story. The film is neat and good but it is offering nothing fresh in terms of the experience. Everything is predictable. As a typical feel good love story film, the first of the film is cool and entertaining. It is in the second half the plot turns easily predictable and hence the audience looses interest. Overall Oy is an Ok film to watch. The fate of the film depends on how the audience reacts to this
old wine in a new bottle film
.
Synopsis
Son of a big business magnate Uday (Siddartha) falls in love at first sight with a simple and homely girl Sandhya (Shamili). He tries his best to impress her but in vain. Latter he joins in her house as paying guest with an ambition of winning her heart. Slowly she falls in love with him but it is then revealed that she is suffering from a cancer and she is living at the edge of her life. What appenned in their love lives and lives after that is all about the rest of the story?
Artistic Performances
Siddhartha comes out with a lively action.
He is at his best with simple and beautiful performance. But he would have given more realistic performance in the key emotional scenes. Shamili too shines as the simple and homely girl.
She lived in the character. Shamili got a good performing role in her debut film and she justified her role. Among others Sunil and Krishnudu justified their roles.
Technical Performances
The first thing is that the story is not fresh. Many have tried this concept around the world since ages. When making a film on such a story line, the film makers must have taken very care because everything is easily predictable. Debutant director Anand tried to maintain the interest in the first half but as the story moves everything is predictable. He would have taken more care on this.
Mani Ratnam’s Geethanjali wouldn’t have such impact if it had poor visuals. Dialogues by Rajasinha are good in few scenes. Cinematography by Vijay Chakravarthy is good but not the best for such kind of films. Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music is also good but not appropriate. Some more importance would have been given to music. Editing is okay. All other departments justified their roles.
